Heat Inactivation: Serum is heated to and maintained at a control temperature of 56 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes.
Dialyzed: Serum is Dialyzed against physiological saline with a 10,000 molecular weight cutoff. The glucose level is monitored until it is less than 5.0 mg/dL. Exhaustive dialysis is not performed in order to prevent precipitation and inactivation of peptides.
Gamma Irradiated: Serum is irradiated with a minimum dose of 2.5 megarads(25 kGy) in a cGMP facility.
Reduced IgG: Omega offers two types of reduced IgG serum. Fetal Bovine Serum is processed by a proprietary chromatography method until the IgG level is less than 20ug/mL. The method does not remove any of the other serum proteins or growth factors. Processed serum is also screened for naturally low IgG concentration and labeled as such without the treatment from chemical filters.
Charcoal/Dextran Treated: Fetal Bovine serum is treated to reduce the levels of hormones and steroids. Serum is stripped using 20g/L of charcoal, 1g/L Dextran, and 0.15M NaCl at 67mL/L until progesterone level is less than 0.2ng/mL. A hormone panel is performed pre and post treatment.
ES Cell Tested: Processed serum is tested for the ability to maintaim mouse embryonic stem cells in an undifferentiated state for 6 weeks.
